Peugeot 505 Turbo Injection #2 (1985)

I bought this car in June 2004 and took it off from the vehicle register as soon as I drove/towed it to home. I already had driven it about 15 km when suddenly the speech synthesizer of the car said: "Stop! Oil pressure is not normal!" I stopped the car as soon as possible and found out that quite visible amount of oil was leaking from somewhere near the bottom of the engine. Then I decided to tow it home. Later I found out the oil came from a broken oil pressure sender (the plastic part of it had cracked). I replaced the broken sensor with a new one and after that the engine was running normally again.

The car has been driven only about 190 000 km according to the mileage indicator but I'm not sure if I can trust that. I'll try to find out more about the history of the car later in the future. As usual, there are some rust that must be taken care of. Mechanically the car is in quite good shape and the interioir is also nice. Currently the car is just waiting for its turn to be restored.

Inspecting the engine

I've taken off the engine and I'm now slowly inspecting and renewing it. So far everything looks quite good.

Inspection of the cylinder head revealed some small cracks as I expected. Usually these aluminium heads develop cracks from the exhaust valve stem towards the water passages. In this case I found some small starting cracks from combustion chambers 2 and 3. They are more visible in the 2nd than in the 3rd. Despite those cracks being quite small, I'm going to get the head welded so that I don't have to worry about it in the future. Check out the pictures: Inspection of the cylinder head.
